two very different approaches

Read this if you are ever interested in interactive 1:1 marketing, or if you want to avoid unnecessary street promotions of pseudo-religeous institutions in Korea.

1. A lady with a big black crossbag across her chest asked me a very obvious direction, pretended she didn't understand, started following me, and blurted a question. "You have a very low-pitch voice. You engineering student?"

I don't even know where to begin. People, watch out strangers with an ugly crossbag asking random questions. The moment you dare to try argue back, or simply point out the fact that you are not from the area nor an engineering phD candidate even though there might be some characteristics of you that can mislead to certain major phenotypes, another stranger with a same ugly crossbag will pop out of nowhere, and the twins will block your way babbling about the end of the world. There, you just lost at least 10 precious minutes of the rest of your life.

2. A lady with beautiful face except a serious skin issue dressed up in a suit holding church pamphlets visible in her hand stood at a bus station. I tried not to make an eye contact but somehow I did, so she approached me and asked politely if I go to a church regularly. I said I don't, then she gave me a pamphlet and a candy, told me it would be nice to see me join the ceremony, and I can call this number.

I won't join the church, but I will remember the politeness of the church lady for quite a while. and who knows? I might feel like going to church one random day.

For the ugly crossbags, There are a few options.
1. follow them to their peusoreligious institution, locate it, and call police for disturbing activity.
2. take a cell phone photo of them without permission and call police.
3. pretend you can't speak korean and call police.
4. Ignore and pass by.

And the lesson point for someone looking for a wholesome info regarding 1:1 interactive marketing. prepare candies.

Caffeine loading

Starbucks' seasonal promotion drink "cream brulee macciato" iced cold.

the aftertaste of cream brulee syrup  somewhat smells like synthetic fruits. Not that i hate it, but i don't think i will order it much often.

anyway it has all i need right now : loads of caffeine and sugar!

a sketch from Western Gate Prison

I sketched a few pieces from the Western Gate Prison, but this is the only one looks comprehensible. overall the site was very historic plus ultra-depressing. i know we have to know what happened in the past and learn especially in the season like that independence week, but it's pretty hard to stare at the actual execution house and the trees the prisoners cried on.

kids ran around chasing each other on where it used to be prisoners exercise ground.

Sketches from Kunming Medical College

piles of surveys from urban streets of central Kunming. Young ladies of KMC never forget to bring their sun umbrellas with them. Kunming's altitude is high and the UV exposure is strong. good sunscreen and/or umbrellas won't do any harm!

a garden between the two-almost-identical buildings. people relax and read there.

public health building with the bamboo trees.

guess who?

can't believe it's already been more than a month. I can still imagine the streets with giant mangos and fruit sellers with huge fig baskets. the unrealistically good weather and plentiful fruits on every street makes Kunming one of the heavenly city on earth.

People sketches from Kunming

Kunming, China is amazing city with dynamic contrast of lives. I was lucky to see various parts of the city. Here are some sketches from a wet market(시장), which is like farmer's market in the U.S..

Actually these pieces are from the beef wholesale market right by the wet market. We visited there before noon, but they were already closed in early morning. Just a few people were working on their meat. Three kids were running on the empty meat tables and were very interested in the tourist-looking visitors.
